Gowanus Canal

Project

Spring 2017

3rd Year Studio

Gowanus Plaza

The Gowanus Canal is a highly polluted waterway that dead-ends in the Gowanus neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. Buildings line the canal, preventing public access. This studio looked at how to increase public engagement with the canal in a future where the canal has been ecologically restored. The proposed Gowanus canal plaza is designed to be a dynamic, multi-functional space for the surrounding community to use and enjoy.
