GOVERNOR'S RESIDENCE RAIN GARDEN
Bringing Water to Life through Planting
The Pennsylvania Governor’s Residence wanted to improve the environmental educational value of the landscape for public and student tours. Along with adding vegetable beds and pollinator gardens, the First Lady asked for the design and installation of rain gardens accompanied by informational signs. It is situated in a corner of the property facing the Front Street and the Susquehanna River. These gardens aim to catch runoff from adjacent roofs and sidewalks.

Soil Preparation
Compost, sand, and biochar were added to the soil to improve drainage for the high-clay content of the natural topsoil.
