Play defines us as human beings. As we navigate through life, play gives us an outlet for energy and imagination while helping us learn how to communicate with the world and one another. Active play is crucial to our physical and mental development as we grow up, and parks and playgrounds are great places for active play to take place. Unfortunately, these valuable spaces are not evenly distributed, and children and families in many communities are left without a place to play. This presents a fantastic design opportunity to increase access to active play for those neighborhoods and communities that do not currently have the opportunity to enjoy public play spaces.
